Who Founded FTX?

Crypto derivatives exchange, FTX, was founded by billionaire Sam Bankman-Fried and software engineer Gary Wang.

Who is Sam Bankman-Fried?

Sam Bankman-Fried is one of the most interesting figures in the crypto space. He made $10 billion by 28 years old and regularly sleeps on a bean bag…. Yep, a bean bag. He is a co-founder and the CEO of FTX.

He is an MIT graduate with a major in physics and a minor in mathematics. After college he started a career at Jane Street Capital, trading international ETFs. He soon moved on to starting Alameda Research, where he started trading crypto. At their best, Alameda Research was making $1-1.5 million profit every day.

During his time at Alameda Research, he grew frustrated with how crypto exchanges worked and wanted to fix it. So in April 2019, he founded FTX with Gary Wang.

Who is Gary Wang?

Gary Wang is a lot more low-key than Sam Bankman-Fried, with not much of an online presence. He is a co-founder and the CTO of FTX.

He is an MIT graduate with a degree in mathematics with computer science.

Prior to founding FTX, he was working at Google as a software engineer then moved to Facebook as a software engineer intern. Gary then quit Facebook to be the Chief Technology Officer at Alameda Research, alongside Sam, then went on to found FTX.
